Lot of fun slinging mortar...
GOt the first 8 feet built, now the fun part.
Now I'm up to 16 feet tall and another 16 to go. Back to blocks for 12 feet, then lead flashing through the roof and back to bricks.
That looks very similar to mine that I built 25 yrs. ago. I think you'll be glad your chimney is in the middle of the house, much better for heat retention and it won't need as much cleaning. In fact I haven't put a brush down mine in years and I burn 2.5 cords a year. All the creosote peels off by itself and lands at the bottom cleanout. Works like a charm.
Happy heating . .
Peter
Those are some nice skills you have there Perry, looks cool...uhh I mean warm!
A real mason would probably laugh at how slow I am. While the 8 feet of 2 flue block chimney only took a half day, the 8 feet of brick took 16 hours.
I arm wrestled a mason once and the back of my hand still hurts some 15 years later. 🙂
Looks great. You can build a home for me anytime.
I would think that slow is better -- it means you are taking time to ensure quality.
Looks like very nice work to me. So what if it's not as fast as someone who does it daily for a living. I imagine a lot of their speed comes from the built up strength in the muscles required for that sort of job.
Ditto Wendell.
I'd hire you in a heartbeat for any home construction project.
