The date night special had a back seat big enough for two or more.
date night ... two or more.
Must have been interesting times for you.

Back in the olden days my girlfriend (now wife) ??borrowed? her Dad??s car and four couples piled in headed to the Drive-in movies. Plenty of room for all to ??make out? and, if real lucky, some ??accidental? feely-touchy when spilling popcorn. ?????ÿ
I remember when the street lights came on, I had 10 minutes to get my ass home, or else I was not going to have any dinner, and I'd be grounded! That's why all of us kids played outside. As soon as the lights would flicker to come on, it was a wrap and we all scattered like ants to where our houses were. ?????ÿ
@noodles Street Lights???
Although I grew up in "suburbia," I don't think there was even a Stop Light within a mile or two of home, let alone a Street Light!
?ÿ???? ?ÿ
@loyal?ÿ
I grew up in the suburbs of Los Angeles. Street Lights everywhere! ?????ÿ
@noodles what a cool bike! You were someone's favorite. A classic f'sure.
I had to be in when street lights came on at that age too. No excuses?ÿ

When we played ball in the street like touch football and stick all, when a car game one would yell "Car Car C A R stick your head in a jelly jar". Don't know why but it was passed from previous generation s I guess.
An average Summer day for my Little Brother and I was grabbing our Gloves, a Baseball, and a couple of bats right after Breakfast, getting a Dollar from Mom, and heading down to the Junior High School Ball Field for a LONG day of Baseball. The Dollar was enough for us to grab a burger and a root beer (each) down at the A&W on the Highway (about a ?¬ mile from the ball field). Weekends usually involved a fishing trip with Dad, or maybe rabbit "hunting" out in the West Desert (mostly shooting, very little hitting of Jack Rabbits with our .22s), 3 day weekends meant a fishing trip to Montana!
Good Times
@loyal I grew up in the sticks and there was one light on our road, conveniently located in front of our property.
@chris-bouffard We had a Fire Hydrant in the front yard, and a septic tank in the backyard, but no Street Light.?ÿ
@loyal I still have a well and septic in current use, my last house had a cesspool and city water.

Prior to 1964 there was a gravel road passing our old house and an outhouse behind, just past the chicken house.?ÿ Nearest street light was 2.5 miles away and there was only one.?ÿ The ball field was a bit more than half a mile away but to get enough kids together to play we might have a 10 year or more difference in ages, plus it was girls and boys or there wouldn't be enough.?ÿ The ball field was next to the two-room school and across the street from the church.?ÿ I could go to the little grocery store there and call Mom to see if she needed for me to bring home any groceries.?ÿ That was the not so secret code to see if I could get a bottle of Orange NEHI and a candy bar or chips and put it on her bill.?ÿ After 1964 we had a paved road, a new house and INDOOR PLUMBING.
That's my bike! I had to "earn" it by learning how to ride without training wheels! Once I did, grandpa got me that "big girls bike".?ÿ My old bike is in the background there, along with my beloved 1971 Dodge Demon "Sharlet".
Bike was too big for me!!! But I rode it anyhow, flip flops and all. I'd NEVER do that now. Amazing that my foot didn't get all chewed up in those pedals! ?????ÿ
@loyal?ÿ
Is that what that's called? I called it my "Big Girls Bike". ?????ÿ
I had that bike for YEARS until I finally outgrew it and got a 10 speed.
I let my friend ride it and she fell off of it and smashed her face in! Wound up getting hospitalized and stitches. Ugh...
@noodles Looks like the Schwinn Stingray I had with the banana seat but I had a blue slick tire on the rear so I could leave my blue skid mark all over the neighborhood.
@noodles "Stingray" was a Schwinn "trademark," although I think the style was copied by other makers. It came out about the time I got my 10-speed, but my daughter had one.

But, your Mom had a 180 decible voice that was an early warning system of the day to git yer ass home. ?????ÿ
