Friday morning, I decided to go collect some money, (in wifes 1998 Camry).
Then, come home, get 1 ton van, that has flat tire, use 12 volt compressor, get enough air into tire, drive to shop, with low tire, get it fixed,
Well, cell phone rang, on my way home in wifes car.
Game warden. I'm on their list, if there is some poor deer, that needs ate.
Theres a 6 pt, alive, in the ditch, about 5 mi down the rd. and he is some 35 mi away... I quickly agree to go get it.
Sure enough, there it is. 6pt buck, exactly where i was told. Still alive. 3 broken legs. I walk slowly down, and dispatch it with my faithful Gerber.
After he quits fussin', I load him up.
I bungie the trunk shut, and go home. Kids are preparing.
Kids handle deer from here.
But kids inform me, "dad, you broke the meat grinder's on/off switch, several months ago".
Now, the meat grinder is a 1/2 hp. Worm drive, pretty good one. But, alas. Osha got their long stinky fingers in it. It has a switch, that glows red, when you plug it in.
It's not just any switch. Its double pole, single throw. This means it's 2 switches hooked to one rocker switch. Well, i was walking by the grinder (its big and heavy) and the side of my boot caught the switch, and it popped out. I put it back... Snapped it back in. But, one tang was broken, or weakened by the experience. So, now I have to fix the meat grinder switch., and it's all fallen apart. Little copper pieces, red plastic. Black plastic. I've never seen a switch like this. Besides, WHY does it have 2 contacts?
Well, I finally wind up at the hardware store. And, after some 2 hrs. (still figuring out) since they don't have anything like the original, in stock, I wound up retro fitting a plain, single throw, double pole switch.
And, splicing wires, and relocating it to the back side of the grinder. It works great.
Then, i notice, the 4 rubber bumper feet, that allow you to set it on the counter, without scratching the counter. 2 are shot. I try to come up with a solution. My son then suggests we canibalize his old atv tire. So, we cut a knob off, (sidewall knobs are not worn out). So we first use a knife (ole gerber, again), but they are tough. We finally wind up with chainsaw. It works well. And, dewalt 20 volt drill. We made some very nice feet. But, it's near dark, and the deer still needs ground.
During all this, I get a call. My Computer is ready. The graphics card had died, last wk. Took it to computer shop. They are real good.
Besides all this, there was a birthday party in my honor, last night.
I still have not plugged in the computer. And, big help is gone. To Texas, chasing a cute little hot girl. And, doing hurricane cleanup.
He likes more physical exertion, and less mental exertion.
I suspect he will wind up with both.
Meanwhile, I'm exchanging txt msgs with clients, and why their survey did not get done, last week.
But, the walnut/pecan pie, and homemade carrot cake, wirh real cream cheese on top.
All this, and trying to find time to fish.
It's good to have a game warden friend. The "bumper crop" has started.

How do you "ground" a deer. I'm not a hunter so I don't understand. 🙂
Ya hook a chunk a copper wire to one hoof and fasten da uddr end to a steel fence post.
Remove from bones, and grind into hamburger. Then, use to make what you like.
I like putting 15 lbs in a big bowl. Mix pepper, salt, a little olive oil, and 1 lb parmisan cheese. Roll into little "cat turds". and smoke for 6 hrs. Then, put in ziplock bags and freeze.
Never goes to waste.

Yer right JAS, That's why I ask questions. Ya can't learn without questions. 😉
Next time just quarter that deer up and put it on ice for 3-5 days

He said he was gonna "ground it".

Yep. Put it on ice in a cooler, drain blood and water 2 times a day. On day 5 de-bone and then run the meat through the grinder, package and freeze

You didn't get it either. The way he phrased it was that he had to "ground" the deer not "grind" the deer. So I guess he had to make sure he had a long rebar set in the ground and a good insulated wire wrapped around a testicle to properly "ground" it. Then I guess he can get busy butchering it, but he should check the current first and make sure there is no residual charge left in the animal.
OK here come the stupid questions:
(I am not a hunter, but do support hunting)
1. How do you remove the fur?
2. Do you have to skin it?
3. What do you do with the head, feets, tail etc.?
4. Isn't ground the past tense of grind?
Question 4 is for Holy Cow.:sweat:

You sure you're not the one who didn't get it? 😉

1) I guess it could be argued that deer have a hide and not fur. As for removing it, I'm sure you can figure that out but if not watch some YouTube videos. Fairly simple but time consuming.
2) Of course you have to skin it and I have butchered about a hundred deer and skinning them is just a required step before eating them.
3) Not much use for the head, feet and tails. Years ago folks used to freeze dry the hooves and turn them up like an "L" shape and make coat racks or maybe rifle holders out of them. The head, well I'm sure you've seen mounts so that is about it for heads.
4) Yes ground would be past tense or grind but it would have to actually have occurred before it could be the former.

Thank you. I'm a suburbanite and only acquire meats from the local grocery store. For fresh fish I catch them myself. 😎

I'm a little concerned about your reading comprehension. (Any luck, getting those Northern Yankees at Carlson, to help you?)
Past: Ground
Present: Grind
Future: Will Grind.
I was typing on a PHONE. "Still needs to be ground" is more clear.
Got more deer, that needs ground.
😉
