11-87 is outdated and heavy. Benellis are overpriced and many tend to jam without a solid shoulder mount.

The Franchi upland is a sweet little gun but they have a problem with jamming often times.

Overall best shotgun ever beretta 3901, you can't kill 'em. That's the gun they use or used to use in the South American dove fields

shooting thousands of rounds a day.

My grandfather bought a bolt action mossberg 16 guage long before I was born. Four generations have hunted with it. I've used it for most everything from deer on down. It's still a good looking gun and does what I need it to do. All of my other shotguns are long gone, but for some reason I csn't get enough rifles or pistols..

I also started bird hunting with a bolt action Mossberg 16 gauge shotgun back in ~1964. It was a great gun in my opinion, and in excellent condition. Sometime in the 1970s my father let my little brother trade it for something else (12 gauge pump). I got a 16 gauge Winchester (I forget the model) in return. It was disassembled in a box, and I never got around to putting it together (so I don't even know if all the parts were there). I have no idea what ever happened to it.

In any case, I really wish that I still had that Mossberg...

@tim-v-pls

Hey they work, my buddy has an old 11-87 with 30" barrel, it will reach out and touch someone.

edit. Actually it's an 1100 predecessor to the 11-87 with a few minor differences but still a solid gun for wing shooting.

@loyal

I started hunting with this one in '69. My Mom held on to it until I was around 30. It's the only thing I have from Grandpa and I'm not ready to pass it on. We'll see which kid or Grandkid shows the right qualities when the time comes. It should last until shot shells are obsolete.

I hunted with a model 12 heavy duck for years. Switched to the camo plastic SX3 few years back because I hunt so much out of layout blinds.

Like it a lot, but understand your dislike of the aesthetics. Honestly, the best way to clean everything but the barrel if you really muck it up (like using it as a shovel to dig yourself out of the mud) is the dish washer of all things.

The SX4 has a really good price point and will probably by one or two for the kiddos soon, but have no report yet.

@sjc1989

I currently have my eye on the SX4 Hybrid. It is described as having a Ceracoated finish but I'm not so sure about because I think it has black synthetic stock and foregrip. I know it is a hangup but at least I own it. I honestly feel like the gun manufacturers are cheating people on the money with those plastic stocks and a dipped finish. That crap is cheap as heck and yet they charge the same or more for lesser cost material than they do for a much better looking burled walnut stock and engraved blued receiver and Barrell.
