I have been reading up on this service, discipline/technology recently mainly due to the fact that we are bidding on a job where GPR's will be used. I am curious is anyone is offering underground utility locations as part of your surveying services package? Seems like it would be a good fit for some circumstances. Just curious.

Yes.

Our S.U.E. department is under the umbrella of the survey department. I'm currently managing the Survey/S.U.E. effort for this project

That looks like a very cool project and lots of work. What type of training did/do you guys provide for the field staff? Did you hire them already trained? Thanks.

We cross train some of the survey & SUE staff, but our SUE department manager and lead project manager have both been in the utility locating or installation field their whole careers.

The capability to do both survey and SUE in house is what landed me on the streetcar project management team. I'm currently mapping all the utilities for about six miles of right of way highlighted below - probably do about 700 vacuum excavated test holes over the winter.

GeoSurvey in Marietta did offer SUE in the past, but I don't know about presently.

A word of caution about GPR. It works really well with sandy soils but our clay/silt soils north of Metro Atlanta can be quite a challenge. If GPR is used be sure and build in some time/expense for verification.
