Just signed up for one of these through AARP.

Looks like I can buy all my building materials for my spec house (and everything else) and get 5% cash back for the first 6 months.

Is there something I'm missing? Seems too good to be true. Is there a catch?

Gordon.,

I plan on paying it off every month. (We haven't had any debt since 1987.)

I think it has a limit on the amount you can get the 5% back on. It seems like it is 5% cash back on the first $2,000 then it drops down to 1% or something less.

It is like they are fishing, as long as you don't swallow too much of the bait and get the hook caught, then you should be fine.

I have a similar card with Discover...the catch is that you won't get more than $400.00 per month in cash back...although I've never charged $8000 in a month and don't plan too...
