So this weekend has been busy. Putting up a board fence. Of course this becomes a family affair. My top hand is the 9 year old. Those of you who have messed with 1x6x16 rough cut treated boards know they can very in weight from one to another as you go down into the stack. The 9 year old doesn’t miss a lick. She totes drags or whatever she has to do to get me the boards to my cutting area. She doesn’t have to be told she thoroughly loves wood working for some reason. So she became my speed square operator and was marking up boards for me to cut. It took her a few times to figure out the speed square. But once she got it that was it. Guess that will come up missing next like my tape measures screw drivers and all.
I was getting tired and rattling off inches and 1/8 1/4 and 1/2 inches as i was measuring up for my face boards I herd her talking to herself and i got to about the 4th or 5th board of cutting she runs off comes back and said dad you are going to need 3 more big ones to get this done i said now how do you know that she said well the boards are 16 ft long you are cutting them and it takes 4 with extra left over so we need 3 more I added it up and then she said oh dad the 1/4 plus 1/4 is 1/2 and i don’t know why you measure to the 1/8 your saw blade is that wide just round up to the 1/4 and lets get this done lol .
So I did what any dad would do and started several nails on the bottom she could reach easy and she grabbed her ball ping hammer and started driving 3” long galvanized nails she finally tired out and held the nail bucket for me so I could finish up before she had riding lessons
Smart gal!
Nice. You got a good one!
Yeah she is doing well so far. She never misses anything I mess up. She is on me quickly. Hopefully this doesn’t go out the window when she becomes a teenager. I have one which is inching close every day. But she so far is doing well also. She loves the science and biology stuff more than building stuff like her little sister. But she is very into FFA and competes in a lot of different disciplines and actually does very well state wide in the forestry and skills knowledge test on livestock etc. The main thing is they are both learning and having fun doing so. It might take me twice as long to get a project done but as long as they show interest I let them do as much as people.
That is what being a good parent is all about. It's the little things that lead to big differnences.
Well I am trying. I am very blessed as well. Great wife kids. I am the only suspect lol. Yeah think santa clause will bring the youngest some tools and wood glue for making some bird houses out of scraps i have laying around. Probably help her hone her skills a bit.

LOL. That has to be one of the wife’s favorite movies. She was very excited to watch that with the older daughter. They are like two peas n a pod. Giggling at the same stuff.
