Weathermen only report the outside air temp.?ÿ Everything else is a lot hotter than that.
I contracted inspection services for a number of years on mainly AP projects.?ÿ I carried various thermometers to check the air temp and materials.?ÿ Knowing how hot it is only makes it feel hotter.?ÿ?ÿIn the summer it's not uncommon to have pavement surfaces hovering around 130 or 140.?ÿ And flat metal surfaces like your truck top can cause second degree burns.?ÿ
Of course if you're walking along beside an asphalt screed the materials are around 300 degrees.?ÿ Drink lots of water and seek shade every chance you get.
?ÿ
If memory serves, Alaska and Hawaii are tied for state with the lowest record high, both at 100?ø.
I've learned a lot from the Firefighters that run the Department where I work.?ÿ Never drink only water, you need electrolytes.?ÿ That's why they issue Firefighters gatorade.?ÿ The kids will charge around carrying heavy gear and they've had serious heat illness in the 20 somethings because they flushed out all their electrolytes.?ÿ The other thing is eat meals.?ÿ When I first started we got sent to an accident investigation.?ÿ We didn't eat lunch.?ÿ In the briefing that afternoon the Chief of the whole thing asked us about not eating lunch.?ÿ He said don't do that, it can cause heat illness.?ÿ Then he turned to the safety officer and said you will make sure the Surveyors eat lunch, we ate lunch after that LOL.
Our reported temperature is at Mather Airport, a giant expanse of concrete and asphalt so it tends to run a few degrees hotter than what we have here.
Low of 76 this morning.?ÿ Forecast high of only 107.?ÿ We?ÿonly got up to 103 yesterday.?ÿ Never thought that would sound good.?ÿ Lows are forecast to get down into the 60s again Wednesday night, thank God.
My oldest son moved from Denver to Phoenix about 6 years ago.?ÿ He was tired of winter hanging on until late and decided to move to a warmer climate.
I talked to him yesterday and it was 112 or 116 there in Phoenix.?ÿ He had to admit that Denver was probably cooler...
it's been pretty balmy here too, though it's subsided a tiny bit the last couple days.?ÿ have a conc block house as well- it's wonderful for deadening outside noise, but good god can it be an adventure with the temps.?ÿ nights are a drag, as the house bleeds all the heat it's absorbed all day inwards at a rate that keeps the AC working almost non-stop.?ÿ the dawn-noon hours are pretty pleasant though, as all that concrete has shed it's warmth and keeps things bearable.
