I have been on my own for 10 years now and have had a business line all along. Six years ago I moved (home office) and have the land line simply forward to my cell phone, as I moved one town over to a differing prefix area. I have a listing in the yellow pages with the line, but usually just get a few price shopper calls from it annually.
However, that number is plastered all over the web. I was thinking of porting it over to Vonage, which would lower my monthly cost a bit and actually give me a phone to use too. Additionally, I have a cell and an internet fax service through myfax.
So, how is the service with Vonage or can you recommend a similar service? I have a magicjack that is going in the garbage...
Thanks in advance,
Matt
i had vonage for a while. the service was adequate, but the customer service is all out of india. porting was a bear but they may have that fixed by now.
Another thing to bear in mind with any VOIP installation: reliability of your Internet connection. I don't recall any outages on my land line in the 30+ years I've had it, but my DSL connection is down at least twice a year, sometimes for half a day or more.
I went Vonage in January, 2007. Rock solid, no complaints.
BUT, I have been blessed with fast and solid high speed internet, a Must Have.
first it was my house phone in a new location, no one could tell it was not a standard phone line.
later, I had my cell number ported to a second vonage box... now that one is my primary line (free calls to Mexico is included). I seldom use the standard land line, and I only use the cell when out of the house.
lots of features and options, easy to configure for call forwarding, voicemail, etc.
Tech support out of India or wherever? It is no issue for me, I have never needed any support... it is that solid and simple.
your mileage will vary
PS: I gave both of my MagicJack devices to a friend, she sent one to a daughter in Texas, they use them constantly at $20 a year... but that requires the device to be plugged into a working, online Windows computer. And Tech Support is non existent.
