Just received this RSS feed; looks like a potentially nice survey rig...

Last trip to Vietnam, I rented a 16 passenger Mercedes diesel van to carry a group from lower Mekon Delta to the Temple on the Cambodian line.

It was an awesome vehicle and I would say it was like having something larger than a suburban and more versatile.

It easily maneuvered thru the narrow roadways around rice patties and grudged thru deep sand at road and bridge construction sites with ease.

I can see it sitting on its frame in many areas here in NE Texas where it takes lightweight vehicles to travel.

😉

No, not another 4WD drive van.

Believe me the one I was inflicted with was a miserable vehicle to drive and work out of.

Hmmm, daddy like!! I currently work out of a GMC Safari and I love it. Access is so much easier than my Excursion. When I need four wheel drive capability I just hook up the Kawasaki Mule but this Sprinter could be my next rig. Thanks for sharing.

I ve been working out of VW crew cab busses since 2008, they are 138kw diesel, permanent 4 wheel drive. Never been stuck or need to be pulled out in sand or mud since. Ground clearance can be an issue, but you can get it with the high ground clearance suspension if it is very rocky, otherwise this vehicle is really good in sand and mud.

Gets 10km to the liter, cruises 120-140 km no problem, its a 2.0 l diesel , with twin turbos and a dual shift 7 speed gearbox.

Moving around with a gps on the pole is easy with the sliding doors locked open, just lock the point of the pole into the foot well, strap your self in and ride with it all hanging out the side. Although the health & safety officers on big sites don't like it.

Isn't there a photo of you standing next to a white van up to its axles in mud?

I am 6-4.

That Van is over 7' tall.

It is a 1999 GMC Quigley conversion.

We walked through that bog several days before it finally sunk on the last day.

Other than that bog that was a better road to the worksite. The other road is steep and very rough, got stuck on it too.

My current employer, Forestry, actually maintains the roads so I haven't been stuck in the five and a half years I've worked here except once. A crew bus pulled us out.
