I didn't see any mention of easement by prescription. Maybe that's what the legal battle referred to and the reporter didn't know what it meant.

Chokoloskee Island the last Florida frontier
Chokoloskee Island is a place full of "Florida Crackers", the good kind, sort of. Below is a link to a good read about one of its characters named Totch Brown. History and drama all rolled into one. B-)
