Backyard vs Frontyard

Noted that the term "backyard pool" was used several times. Was waiting for "frontyard" or "sideyard" pools to be included.

Thanks for sharing that. I'll be sure to tell a client that called a couple days ago to be happy she doesn't live in Australia. She has a very nice, in-ground pool and bath house, including a diving board on the tract we will be severing from the farm land she is retaining. It's been a long time since I've surveyed a tract out in the middle of farm country with a pool like the one she has.

This is due to the high number of child deaths by drowning. Pools have to be registered and have their fencing inspected for compliance. In order to prevent child drowning and death.

It's been that way in QLD for quite a while now.

All pools must be fenced with a child proof fence and with cp gate access. Fish ponds also must be in an enclosed areas.

Too many drownings!

Requiring all children over a certain age to complete a drown proofing course would likely be more effective. However, I would expect parents would revolt at the government invading their lives to that extent. Better to make the safety of their children some other person's responsibility.

It's an accepted thing here and certainly has saved lives.
Mandatory courses in survival don't always prevent the unfortunate incidents they're designed to do.

Several deaths arose from toddlers straying from home and ending up in a neighbours pool.
Really strains communities.

Australia is different. You have equally "weird/ strange/ odd" regulatory requirements we would fine strange.
Just a cultural thingo.
