Surveying at the entry level needs to have pay competitive with other entry level. But, simply NOT being retail is going to be a plus for a lot of people when they think of surveying.
?ÿ
And, it isn't so much your headline, as the headline all over. It just struck me as strange.
Exactly, so the "news" story that I heard all over is basically a non-story.?ÿ
Well, if you're gonna apply for the OC job, just remember median home price around there is upwards of 700K and average rent excluding utilities is well clear of 2K/month. You're probably on the hook for around 5-7K in state income tax too at that pay scale.
?ÿ
...being in the Seattle area, I'm trying to remember something about glass houses, especially considering our pay scales aren't that great either when compared to cost of living. But at least we don't have a state income tax.
I wish.?ÿ I'll wrap up my LSIT first them worry about where I can land.
Seattle is another place I'd love but my SWMBOAWD doesnt do clouds. So shed be gone from sept till June every year.

$1.50/hr is exactly the raise I got when I first got licensed.?ÿ
Whats the correlation to inflation based upon when that occurred?
Seems to be kind of paltry cost increase for bearing the full load of that responsibility.?ÿ
I guess its true. The career pays well but the reasons we do this work isn't money at driven only.
Thats a good thing.
?ÿ
That would be the equivalent of about $2.40 now.?ÿ So even that's not all that impressive.
Bottom line - they don't particularly need or want a PLS in that position.?ÿ And when I was licensed my company was ho-hum about having a fifth and sixth (a coworker also got licensed in the same cycle) PLS in the room. They needed survey techs. The day after I was licensed I was in the same cubicle doing the same tasks and answering to the same people that I was the day before. In a sense that license actually made me less valuable to that company because I had become higher maintenance. It took me quite some time to come to grips with that, but that's a fact.?ÿ ?ÿ?ÿ
I've seen that situation all too often over oh-so-many years.
I always have to ask prospective licensees employed by licensed surveyors, "What does your boss need with another license?"?ÿ ?ÿ
It's like one day you're good help, and the next day you're competition.?ÿ Sad but true.
I'd still do it, slam dunk. Just don't expect your life to be transformed on the day it happens.
If you don't do it, expect to be stuck in your place for the duration. You've already max'd out.
