I've been land surveying since 1972 and it ain't never been about the money. It was because I loved the profession and the many challenges it gave me. Nothing compares with the feeling of helping to build the American infrastructure that will remain long after my life ends. But what I've enjoyed most of all was the opportunity to ply my trade in the wilderness and follow in the footsteps, (literally), of those that came before. My abused body has worn out and I can no longer physically do what I have so loved all these past years, so I enjoy being able to share what little knowledge and experience I have accumulated with those that still practice our noble calling in the field.
