Introducing Witness Corner

A witness corner is what you set when the true corner can’t be occupied. It’s a monument nearby, on line, carrying the bearing and distance back to the real point.

That’s the idea here. Every Tuesday morning we round up what’s moving in surveying and put it in one place. Licensure fights and scope-of-practice bills. Datum and standards. Court rulings that change how a boundary gets held. Gear, regulation, and the business of running a shop. A handful of stories, our summary of each, and a link straight to whoever reported it.

The summaries are short on purpose. Enough to know whether it matters to you, not enough to save you the click. Everything links out, because the people doing that reporting deserve the traffic and they’ll tell it better than we will.

We’ll usually publish Witness Corner on Tuesdays at 4am (Mountain time), because surveyors start early and some of you would rather read it before the truck than after.

If we miss something

We will. There’s more happening in this profession than any one person catches, and a lot of it never makes the trade press at all. State board actions, local rulings, the bill your society is fighting this session.

Post it in the forums or send it over. Plenty of what ends up leading an issue will come from members, and when someone beats us to a story and starts the conversation first, that’s the better version anyway. We’ll link to your topic instead of starting our own.
