Position Available - Louisville Army Corps of Engineers

I started my survey career with the Corps as a survey tech. No experience, no knowledge of surveying at all. I was a GS-3. Young, single, living at parents still. Fun job. It was mostly travel within 150 miles or so Monday to Friday. Always home by Friday afternoon.
I had taken a general "engineering tech" exam and they contacted me.

You will be giving up your position there like you gave up the editor's position for the KAPS magazine. You'll be there another ten years. "ok guys, this time I really mean I am stepping down, and somebody is going to have to take over". Good times.
