Chief Quit Today
I wasn't referring to your post in my response. I fully understand what you were saying.
Everyone deals with these things different and I don't think Kris should be faulted for not being a mind reader. When I was a chief my wife was involved in a head on which left both drivers touch and go for awhile. Being a crew chief I had more than just myself to worry about. I remained in contact with the office the first day making sure that a new chief would know where my projects stood & I wouldn't be in the next morning. The next morning got an update from the doctors and let my boss know that I wouldn't be in the rest of the week. I never took it for granted that someone else would know what I needed until I told them. This was a family like operation but I think it's a two way street.
I had two cousins working with me when the common Grandmother died. The first came rushing home from out of state leaving the crew chief on his own. The other stayed until the day before the funeral which was almost a week from her death. I asked the 2nd cousin if he was sure he didn't need to come home and he said something I've said for a long time, "She's dead, she's not getting anybetter. I'm not Jesus so she's not getting up just because I show up." I don't fault either cousin for their reaction but how can I be expected to schedule without some communication. I don't like to call people at a time like that to discuss work. It's intrusive and I'd be a little put off. I'll make the call. I think the Kris's chief needs to get his emotions in check.
A few years back a fellow that worked for a local mechanic showed up at his door one Saturday. The fellow explained that his sister had died and he would probably have to miss a few days of work. The mechanic knew that this fellow and his sister still lived together in their deceased parent's home. Thinking he should probably send flowers for her funeral, he asked the fellow where she was, meaning which mortuary. "Oh, she's at home."
He had not thought to contact the authorities or even a funeral home when he found her dead.
Some events shake everything up including what is going on inside their brain and they do things we never will understand.
They just do something on impulse as if enough is enough.
I have done it and have had it happen to me and I have seen it happen to others. From a work perspective, every time it happens, it seems like the worst possible time for it to happen, especially in the middle of a project/s.
People are free willed and do what they want to do.
Learned that it just the way the cookie crumbles and you do what you gotta do, with or without them.
Maybe we can trade, my chief is developing an attitude and really needs different surroundings to find out it is the same all over.
