?ÿThe company ran a mine from 1917 to 1928.
The mine was buried in the midst of some seriously remote and rugged country. There is a very good reason it is called 'Broken River'.
?ÿ
The company operated a 70 cm horse and steam hauled tramway from an approx. 700-metre-long inclined plane that hauled coal up out of the Broken River valley, thence 2.7 kilometers along a high hill-side to another inclined plane that lowered coal approx 600 meters to bins at Avoca railway station. They must have really wanted that coal.
I visited the parts of the site yesterday. It is miles from anywhere. The haul up out of the river is simply amazing - straight up an incredibly steep ridge (265m lift in 700m). The cables; some of the boilers; earthworks; pulleys and bridge or two are still there.

If you jump into Google Earth, panning round really gives a feel for how steep the country is. Apparently I can't attach a kml or kmz file here, so the attached is pure kml as a txt file.
