I love chutzpah... wait, I mean gazpacho.?ÿ yeah.?ÿ that one. ???? ?????ÿ
@lurker?ÿ
So does the "angi" page and the chamber of commerce, along with multiple glowing reviews.?ÿ ?ÿoddly, the webpage is down for repairs...?ÿ ?ÿ
Based on the reviews I read and his website this guy needs to be turned into the Board.
Is North Carolina a recording State? It appears he has "set" several property corners on other projects.

Reading the OP it looks like this project has already been "staked". With whose caps I wonder?
I'd like to know who are the two surveyors he refers to as have been stamping his work, and how much supervision he had then.
It could be he finds work, coordinates with a PLS, and makes it legitamate, and now was proposing a different arrangement.
Could be.
OP has gone silent since opening post...seems phishy to me.
Yea. I think a lot of you I may have confused. I do not normally do ANY surveying not under the umbrella of a licensed surveyor. I have 2 firms that I work under in a subcontract environment. This 1 job is a close family friend who I did a favor to by doing his field work for him. I didn't charge the guy. My normal firms are quite busy so I was asking a one time favor for a licensed surveyor to help with the mapping. And if they need anything in the future I'd be glad to discuss but im not out here just willy nilly surveying everyone's property not under the umbrella of a licensed surveyor. If you think you need to call the board for me helping a friend on a Saturday then go ahead.?ÿ
Im here.
@ricklife?ÿ ?ÿYou told us to look you up, so some of us did.
"ce. I have reviews on google and angies list if youd like to do your due diligence on my work. Thanks in advance!"?ÿ?ÿ

Is that you??ÿ
?ÿ
?ÿ ?ÿ If we are confused, why don't you clear it all up.?ÿ You have a business relationship with two licensed firms, but are online trying to bring a stranger into the situation.?ÿ Don't you think that looks like a red flag??ÿ?ÿ
?ÿ
Well I didn't think it was that confusing but it looks like it was. It's not a red flag. I helped a friend of mine with field work on his survey and told him I'd help him through the process of the recombo. So I was told from one of my firms that they don't mind doing it but he can't put a date on it bc they are so far behind. So I took it upon myself to reach out to a community of surveyors to see if anyone did have time to do this as my buddy has been waiting a couple months already. Sol is there something legally wrong with this? If there is then please explain bc I truly didn't know.?ÿ
On the second point , yes I stated to look me up for references so a potential surveyor could see I did golold solid work and that he's not getting a field file full of slop . I also plan on answering some ads from several companies looking for field crew help tomorrow. In this situation I can A- Help with their workload on a per job basis and B- If their workload was lite and I had a realtor call me bc her realtor coworker told her I did good work, coukd do the field work under firm A, B?ÿ or C's umbrella and get paid by them contractually. Im not advertising myself anywhere, I'm not doing half-assed , cutting corners, pencil whipping work. I take pride in my work. I try to carry myself in a professional manner. I didn't think asking a favor from a community of surveyors would cause this much drama and hate. Best believe I won't make that mistake again. Straight hate. What's wrong with trying to be happy for a guy who's dedicated his adult life to the same profession as you, CST certifield, certified survey apprentice, taken geomatics classes, volunteered my time with boy scouts tool earn merit badges on surveying, studying to hopefully get his license soon. Instead of being happy for this guy you pick me apart like im a complete and utter failure. I'm sure several are halfway to trying to destroy my career somehow because why? Does me doing subcontract survey work bother you all that much? If I was an eye man working for ABC surveying and I did the field work on my mom's house then found out ABC surveying couldn't get to it for 4 months, so I reached out to see if anyone could help us out getting it done, is that so morally wrong that I should be condemned for even thinking that thought? Reaching out to a group of guys I thought I called my own? If I was put of bounds here I apologize to each and every one of you and im deeply sorry for offending you and bringing shame to this forum. One of which I won't be posting to again. We will just hold tight until my peoples workload lightens and I can embarrassed and ashamed for offering to help take care of things survey wise but not be able to find anyone in my own profession to help wrap this thing up. But it's not ones fault but my own. All the more reason to study harder for these exams and not have to depend on anyone else to help get stuff done. Again sorry for passing you guys off and rubbing you the wrong way for trying to help someone out and/or trying to better myself through networking. You won't have to hear from me again.?ÿ
@andy-j In the verified reviews for his company's page on Angie's list the reviewers only refer to him (the surveyor) and his great service and cost.?ÿ ?ÿ They would recommend him as a surveyor.?ÿ ?ÿ The commentators are probably unclear who the surveyor is??ÿ How is he able to offer such low cost as a subcontractor if there is a surveyor in charge.?ÿ ?ÿWhy would a surveyor strike up this business relationship?
?ÿIm not advertising myself anywhere, I'm not doing half-assed , cutting corners, pencil whipping work.
Your website under construction literally says you offer "Land Surveying services".?ÿ Your Facebook page literally lists services as "Surveyor".
So you're either completely ignorant to the concerns brought up here or you're just outright lying.
I don't think anyone here is questioning your competence or the quality of your work in the type of surveying you've done, but you don't know what you don't know - and the immediate, consistent reaction you're seeing here in this community is that it's a crime in I believe every state to advertise as a surveyor (or architect, or engineer, or MD, or....) for very real reasons - one is that you're measuring ground that has legally defined boundaries and legal burdens on it.?ÿ Contractors, developers, homeowners, PUCs etc spend a lot of money and risk a lot of money based on that information being accurate.?ÿ One small error *can* be disastrous not just financially and/or legally, but many times in regard to safety as well.?ÿ A surveyor will likely be deposed or in court in their career and if they don't have a comprehensive understanding of standards of care, principles and practices and the legal requirements for performing those measurements and analyses, you and your client lose.
You seem like a great candidate for becoming licensed yourself.?ÿ Just do it.?ÿ But if you can't/don't want to, don't advertise it in any format, and don't expect any licensed surveyor (at least any with any integrity) to blindly and remotely accept your field work and CAD to produce a recordable map.
Get it?
Why would a surveyor strike up this business relationship?
I have often wondered that.?ÿ Mostly because I can not figure a way to rationalize such a relationship as meeting the regulatory language around two items 1) independent contractor vs. employee and 2) direct supervisory control.
What the OP describes appears to me to be directly in violation of IRS and labor law designations of independent contractor without the licensee relinquishing direct supervisory control.?ÿ Out of curiosity, I looked up the NC definition and the rules of professional conduct have a section that states:
Direct supervisory control (responsible charge) requires a licensee or employee to carry out all client contacts, provide internal and external financial control, oversee employee training, and exercise control and supervision over all job requirements to include research, planning, design, field supervision and work product review. Direct supervisory control may be accomplished face to face or by other means of communication. A licensee shall not contract with a non-licensed individual to provide these professional services. Research, such as title searches and soil testing, may be contracted to a non-licensed individual, provided that individual is qualified or licensed to provide such service and provided the licensee reviews the work.
21 N.C. Admin. Code 56.0701
A more complete definition than I've seen in some other states.?ÿ But it appears to require a licensee/employee relationship.?ÿ I know there have been countless discussions of this topic on the forums over the years.
There are instances written into most state codes that open the door for contracting others for a project, but those are usually designated as hiring other licensees to cover any portion of a project for which you are not qualified.
I'm a NC PLS. My first response is WTF?
You don't have a license but you want to steal business from those of us who do everything the right way? The legal way? We completed our education, studied and passed the exams, pay for our license renewal every year, pay for our business license every year, pay for continuing education every year. We pay for insurance, purchase and maintain equipment, vehicles, software subscriptions, computer hardware, and office supplies. We took risks and started our own businesses while still trying to feed our families. And you want someone to potentially throw all of that away to help you do something illegal?
Let me know if you get someone to sign your work. I will be happy to file a complaint against you both.
