I have rejected monuments because I had good reason to do so.
But I'm reluctant to do it.
The current problem involves one monument set 3 feet off.?ÿ I found the error in Knute Nelson's calculations from 1961.?ÿ He added 10?ø to his tie bearing from his control point about 30' away (something like that).?ÿ Same survey, next monument west, that one is 7 feet off, can't find any problem with his traverse or tie calculations on that one, evidence of heavy activity (timber harvest) in the area, Knute tied one bearing tree (now gone) which I think I found the root hole which supports the correct location so I think that one is not where Knute set it.?ÿ All other monuments we found are very close to where they should be.?ÿ Haven't made a decision yet, can't get back to it, to many other things keep coming up.
If a monument was erroneously set yet has in place for decades my inclination is to accept it.?ÿ But if I have evidence that it was knocked out then randomly stabbed back in the ground by persons unknown at some unknown time in the past my inclination is to reject it.
