In a hijacked post by GeeOddMike?ÿ (see post on?ÿFour Corners by MathTeacher ) he shows his handheld GPS on the Greenwich meridian.

It shows that for longitude it does not read?ÿZero (DMS.sss). I don't see any posters that wonder why(?) but I see fit to try to give everybody

an answer. Back in 2015 there was a paper in Journal of Geodesy (some articles are open source, and this one is);?ÿ

"Why the Greenwich meridian moved", Journal of Geodesy (2015)?ÿ89: pp 1263-1272.?ÿThis paper is the first to give scientific reason why your

GPS receiver does not read?ÿZero Longitude.

The first time I came across this was in 1971 reading an article in the journal?ÿNavigation, Vol. 18 #2, June 1, 1971.?ÿThis article is referenced in the Journal of Geodesy paper; Title?ÿNavigation at the prime meridian?ÿby Gebel and Matthews (I have this but can't find it yet; give me some slack, it only been 49 years since I read it).?ÿ

Just before I was going to make this post my wife ask me if I had checked "YouTube". No I had not. I did check and found some interesting stuff.

For YouTube: type in why the Greenwick meridian is not the prime meridian. Scroll down till you find an old map with the near same title and a time stamp of 11:47 on the map.?ÿ

Note: you might want to pull your Geodesy book out and read on?ÿDeflection of the Vertical.
