I usually don't work on weekends. Occasionally we will get a job in the county where I live that needs to be done before our regular schedule will allow and its for a friend or former client of mine. I'm even picky about which ones of those I agree to do on a Saturday. This time it was a simple retracement of a survey I had been crew chief on 27 years ago just outside of town. My assistants were: Matt, my youngest son, a full time crew member, and Aiden, my grandson, 8 (Oldest daughter's firstborn and our oldest grandchild). After digging up a couple corners, Aiden asked why we liked digging so much. "After all, it's not treasure". Matt and I replied simultaneously "Yes it is!". I'm not positive, but I think I saw a little spark in his eye as he contemplated our definition of treasure. His Mom said he couldn't stop talking about the day. I think Aiden needs to go with us the next time we retrace one of my Dad's surveys.

@dougie I had a boss one time, very early in my surveying career, tell me to not come back to the office without a highway monument that had not been found.?ÿ I went back out to the site and found it in a brush pile in the edge of the woods.?ÿ Evidently, the new homeowners didn't care for the 4x4 concrete monument sticking up in their front yard...

When I got back to the office that afternoon, I told the boss that got it.?ÿ He asked for the coordinates, and I gave him a stupid blank look.?ÿ I told him that I brought it back with me like he instructed.?ÿ His face turned white as a sheet when he looked out the window into the back of my truck.?ÿ I busted out laughing and then told him where and how I found it.?ÿ As far as I know, it's still in his barn where I left it.

For all those concerned, this was a pre-coffee post after a long week. I did not have a medical event..
