I began doing weighted mean on redundant RTK as a way to catch bad inits and obtain mild improvement in positions. Over time the processing has become automated to the point there is no reason not to.
As late as last year I was still catching bad inits in my own work. I caught more in work I was following. If it takes little to no effort and has a quantifiable benefit, the question becomes 'Why not do it?'.
