do you mean DN or direction sets (DB,DM and DE).
I prefer direction sets, although the Leica and Trimble converters don;t create them as much as I would like. Sometime I have to manually edit them.
The direction set applies an estimated error to each HA measurement regardless of what the notional "backsight" is. Ina dense network I often have multiple backsights/foresights/sideshots that are basically the same to me.

T2, T3 pencil and paper notes? Yeah, DB DN DE. I know no other. First set, backsight reading is always "whatever it happens to be". Second set, advance the plate enough, and pay no attention to setting minutes or seconds.
DB DN ... DN DE.
Best part is adjusted output in the listing is in plate readings. Great way to find a minute bust.
I'm still unsure if the value in options for directions is Std Err or Std Dev.
