Needing some total station info. We use gps with scs900 all the time. Often on our very small residential jobs with no control or calibration for each site. Just for basic layout/volumes that sort of thing. My question is can we use a robot the same way, meaning setup on an arbitrary location with no control onsite to calibrate off of? Many of our sights our in dense wooded areas and we often have issues with getting satellites.?ÿ
Isn't that how it was nearly always done before the days of GNSS?
Does your jurisdiction have any requirements for SPC or other absolute position?
@bill93 I’m sure there are some SPC’s in place but nothing that would concern what we would be doing. Our measurements and points would only be used in short term. Anything more would have engineered drawings and survey set Control. I’m more concerned with if it can be done with scs900 and how one would do it. I have little to no experience with total station use.
If you don't care where you are in the world, and don't have to match up with anybody else's data, you just pick a monument and call its coordinates 10,000 10,000 or other convenient numbers.?ÿ Then pick another monument and guess (or compass measurement) its bearing from the first.?ÿ Then all bearings and distances are measured and calculated in the local coordinate system you have just invented. Data collectors will have some kind of calibrate "here" routine deal with it - see your operators manual.
i don;t know the process in SCS900, but I'm sure you could assume coordinates for your occupy and backsite points. Then locate two points to use as a baseline and use station and offset to stake out whatever you need. Any points you locate while set up will be relative to your assumed points, so depending on what you locate, you could rotate a plan to those points in CAD and then go stake out things based on rotated plan.
SCS900 is designed to download an entire site into the data collector and send the button pusher out to set stakes. It is not the right program to be creating your own job from scratch onsite. I'm not saying it can't be done. I literally hate the program and refuse to use it for anything. It should be possible to setup a template job in TBC that could be used anytime you want.
