I'm having a terrible time accessing the map page of the U-SMART Database. Firefox won't get past a "Loading 50%" message. Yesterday I was able to access the map using IE v11.0 (which I hate to run), but today even IE giving me fits -- it gets to "Loading Complete" but the progress wheel continues to spin and the map never appears.
What's the magic key?

Here's what i got...
My understanding is that the MIL certificates don't get installed by default with most browsers, so a security warning is to be expected. What's got me scratching my head is that even after I tell my browser to accept the certificate, I still get the map loading problem. I was able to get past it with IE yesterday, but not today. Firefox and Chrome haven't even gotten me that far.
Whatever's going on under the hood is way to complicated for me to understand, but it's interfering with my work nonetheless.

It could be on their end and not a browser issue at all.Contact the webmaster and see what they have to say.

I'm having a lot of trouble with NOAA websites today and yesterday.
National Weather Service says my zipcode (which I have used hundreds of times) can't be found.
NGS is being sticky at best.
Drop-down list refuses to populate on solution sharing, can't make an Agency, just goes to a bad connection page, etc.
Here is what is on the home page.

Issues related to the U-SMART Map and Firefox are currently being addressed. If you are still experiencing any other issues within U-SMART, please contact the U-SMART helpdesk at U-SMART@usace.army.mil for assistance.
Our U-SMART is having a lot of trouble with non CORPS users. It is always the map interface that is the problem. The other tabs seem to work but of course the map is the heart of the site. A few weeks ago, I did some testing from my home computer and neither IE or Chrome was able to load the map. My Android Kindle loaded the map but was very slow updating. Hopefully, HQ will come up with a fix so everyone can use this great resource.
U-SMART has trouble working with other browsers other than Internet Exploder. I just loaded a map up on my computer. Mark Huber, who posts here from time to time is a good POC for questions about U-SMART.

Jim,
I am sorry about the problems you are experiencing with U-SMART. There are several other systems built on the same platform that have problems with the map when using Firefox.
This is on our to-do list but with our current budget it's not at the top of the list. i am hopeful that we can resolve that problem soon.
About the MIL certificates... Do you think it would be helpful for me to post some instructions on how to install MIL certificates, if i can remember how? It bugs me that the system has to be on a secure server but it is one of the many constraints that I must live with.
And i would certainly welcome any comments/suggestions about U-SMART from you guys.
Thanks,
Mark
At this point I'm not convinced it's a certificate issue, because I can sometimes get it working with Internet Explorer (v11?), but not always. The problem manifests differently between IE and Firefox; in Firefox I never get past the "50% loading" message, while in IE it goes to 100% but never actually loads the map. (It loads an image that looks kind of like a map zoomed out to a global view and replicated 3 or 4 times across the page, but the map won't pan or zoom.)
Sorry about that Jim.
I'll ask the developers to have a look under the hood. Can you tell me which version of IE you are using?

Jim,
I have asked the developers to look into the problem with IE v11. they are guessing that it's the fact that IE v11 is now using HTML5 as its base language and the U-SMART Oracle APEX engine is using HTML4. But who knows! I indicated that it is important that the system be accessible to our users and we will have to look for a solution. When I hear something, I'll pass it along.
Sorry for the issues. It is my hope that this system will become the easiest source for USACE and NGS control. But we are still working on it.
If you have any comments or suggestions, you can pass them directly to the U-SMART team @ usmart@usace.army.mil.
We are currently working on a utility to allow exporting to a KML.
Later,
Mark
