Is there a cure for keys that have to be pushed harder than normal, short of keypad replacement. Seems more of a problem since colder weather has arrived.

I think that the contacts can be cleaned. I've been using Topcon for many years. Every one of them suffered from this. Drive you crazy until you finally give in and send it in .
We had had the same problem with our GPT2005. There are no replacement parts. And parts from used equipment is getting scarce. But the good news is you can have the buttons cleaned and refreshed. We have to do this almost annually.
I have disassembled our Topcon GTS 3 about 5 times, and cleaned the contacts, with rubbing alcohol.
Puts it all right. It is where the bottom of the rubber button, creates the connection, when you press it. Clean both the button, and where the button contacts.

If it is the primary face that is giving you issues, you can easily swap the 2 faces. The 4 screws and a little time and you are good to go until you wear out both sides.
