Has anyone used on of these -
to convert a tripod with the screw locks into a lever lock version?
I've got several screw lock tripods that are stripped or otherwise inoperable. Instead of just disposing of them, it would be handy to convert them over. Looks like it should be as simple as drill a hole and attach the above part.
Clamp style
I prefer the clamps to the screws. It does look pretty simple and I'm sure it'd work.
I'd check with seco, all the clamp type tripods, from my experience, it isn't just a hole, the hole is square and so it the shank of the bolt, so that the lever doesn't spin when unlocked.
I'd recommend replacing worn tripods if the leg clamps don't work, then other parts are likely worn out too.
Installing the right quick clamp is as easy as drilling the hole and putting the nut on the bolt. The clamp has the square hole. The big variable is the quality and width of the clamp. If the width doesn't match properly it won't hold tight.
Thanks for the feedback gentlemen.
The local university has about 10 tripods that will have one screw stuck or stripped on each tripod. I donated several sets of legs with the lever lock, but I thought I would just fix the other ones with the lever lock if possible instead of worrying with the screws.
These tripods have not been banging around in the work truck or left out to weather. So they are really in decent shape (original paint even looks good).
I'll give it a try with one set and see how it works.
10 tripods x 2 good legs each / 3 legs needed = 6 good tripods just by swapping legs.
Put the lever locks on the other 4.
