I am not sure if moisture could exists inside total station case .
So i am wondering if a small pouch with gel, selling at super markets, absorbing moisture is a good measure for the total station to preserve dry .?ÿ
Lots of manufacturers used to supply a pouch in the case. It won't do any harm. Even if the instrument is wiped down if it gets damp there is always somewhere a few drops will collect. If you have been using it indoors during winter, when it goes back in a cold truck then some condensation might occur. Best also to take it out of the case and stand it somewhere cool in the office when you get back.
We always take care of our instruments but I've heard tales for manufacturer's reps who have seen instruments with green mould growing on them - never wiped, always kept in the truck
When in doubt, leave the case open to dry it out. I've used one instrument that had been put in the case wet and moisture had gotten inside the telescope, making it much harder to see through and get reflectorless shots, especially when shooting against the sun. Luckily, it was resolved with the next service.
The term for the item you are referring to is: desiccant (desiccant silica gel).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desiccant
Our total station cases shipped with a pouch of desiccant included inside.
They are not a substitue for proper maintenance and keeping things as dry as possible, etc.
They do help keep humidity down when the case is closed/sealed.
Remember to refresh the dessicant every so often. Usually just takes a bit of time in the oven/microwave/dehydrator etc.?ÿ
