TOPCON/SOKKIA ATP1 versus ATP1 Builders Series Prisms:
I have recently run across the ATP1 Builder Series prism that is about 1/2 the cost of the ATP1. Are the two of similar quality of construction and tracking performance? I would be using this with a DS-205 TOPCON Robot...
Thanks in advance for your input,
Matt

Matt,
I used the builder series ATP1 prisms, on the mini pole, one on the backsight and the OEM on the tall pole. They all have a 7mm prism constant. The cheaper prism appear to me that they are heavier and may be made of stainless steel, compared the OEM being made with aluminum (I think). I have not done any extensive bench testing, but they all work great for me, with no any noticeable accuracy differences. If there is any difference, it is sure to be less error than changing prism constants from -30mm vs -7mm, and they cost a lot less that the OEM. I've also tried the el-cheapo Ebay prisms from China. Work fine also. But there is a noticeable difference in the glass quality and workmanship of the China prisms. But for $250, compared to $1400 for the OEM, you can't complain. I think the builders series are about $700.
Thanks Lee; the input is much appreciated!
The Builder Series 360 Prism (1004684-01) is built to our specifications to offer a lower cost but high quality 360 prism alternative to our ATP1 high end prism.
