I have a Topcon GTS-825A with an on board battery BT-56Q. Can I use an older BT-47Q battery with this instrument, it comes from a Topcon GTS-802A.

I would have posted earlier but this is not my speciality and I do not like to give erroneous information.
I checked with our service manager and the difference between the BT-47Q and the BT-56Q is capacity but the voltage is the same and they are designed for the same receptacle.
So you should be able to use that battery with the expectation that the run time would be a little less than with the BT-56Q. Of course, that extra time would be a plus since you already have the battery in hand.
