Just picked up a Used Topcon 3105w from hayes
Looks brand new
butit just clicks when i try to measure a distance
is there something i am missing here
It also does not appear to be sending a blue tooth signal out
The clicking is normal
There is a menu you need to access for the Bluetooth/RS232 toggle. Your dealer should have explained where to find it
thanks i will look for it
as far as the distance i was testing it in office
and was too close
thanks for pointing me in the right direction
I found it works fine
The click you are hearing is from the EDM. The EDM has a filter that moves left to right that makes the sound.
have a ranger 2007 v 4.5 non bluetooth
I have connected the 3100w to it no problem
I am in the process of trying to use the bluetooth
controller using magnet sodtware that came with
my rtk system and find that i seem to need to punch
many many more keys to get to the same place as i do
with the ranger with more many chances of errors.
I was sold the tesla as I was told that it was the only
controller that would work with my hipers. I would like to go back
to using the tds software but do not know if I can as of now
I am also paying something like 700 dollars a year for
who only knows what.
I too came from a TDS background (TDS standard on Husky FS2). Unfortunately as we are all aware, Trimble bought TDS and my guess would be that TDS will never support any 3rd party equipment that was not already supported when Trimble bought TDS.
I was in a similar situation when I bought a new Topcon robot. My existing Husky didn't have robotics enabled or have a radio system to communicate with the robot. I was told that current versions of TDS would not run the 9000 series Topcon Robots and was told by my dealer that Topcon TopSurv (predecessor to Magnet) or Carlson SurvCE on a Topcon FC-2500 would be the best solution. Of course TopSurv was pushed as the better solution.
I used TopSurv for about almost two years and while it ran the robot nearly flawlessly, I found many things about TopSurv as a data collection software that were deal breakers for me. Search this forum for my username and topsurv for the details.
I made the jump to Carlson SurvCE in early 2012 when I needed the road module and couldn't see giving Topcon anymore money. Topcon reinforced my decision when they released Magnet that supposedly fixed my issues with TopSurv and decided not to support the FC-2500 that was sold to me two years earlier as their top of the line DC.
I've been happy with Carlson SurvCE. I run a Topcon 9003A Robot and a Topcon HyperSR network rover with Carlson SurvCE 3.02 on a Topcon FC-2500. To be fair, I have more communication issues between the robot and SurvCE but I can live with that for the solid data collection.
As many have said, it'd be nice if the industry push toward proprietary integrated systems went away and we could pick the best equipment and then use the best or our preferred data collection system. I'm not going to hold my breath while I wait though.
thinking back my first tds was on a hp48
still have it.
But I missed the hp 41 which i now have on my I phone
for quick calcs
Just Rambling on after screwing around on the magnet
all weekend trying to perfect it with my 3105.
Had to do it so i could more easily switch between
RTK and optical
Check out this [msg=112844]thread[/msg]. It pretty much hits the highlights on the issues I had with TopSurv. I used Version 7.52 through Version 8.2 with none of these issues addressed. I've been told by Topcon sales reps that "thats all been fixed in Magnet". All of these issues were things that caught me by surprise and cost me office time to figure out and fieldwork to verify.
Feel free to contact me directly if you want more info on the issues I found.
