Lowballers & quitting time

> Low-balling is a terrible scourge on our industry. Crews are gone, technicians are gone, office help is gone, equipment is aging, trucks are needing repair, and surveyors like Bob are quitting.

This is all due to a severe lack of self respect or a value of services, not cheap, or cut-rate equipment (is there such a thing? please tell me where I can buy it). There is a simple flaw to how most surveyors philosophy and how they are approaching projects. Surveyors are not asking themselves what it will take to get the work done properly. Instead, they are asking what corners they need to cut to get the work.

Well, I have no regrets, surveying beeen very very good to me.

I (my company) has put a lot of food on many tables over the years. Guys have retired because of me. Kids have gone to college because of my firm. It's all good.

The times have changed but (like I said earlier) the risk/reward is too great now. There is simply very little reward for the amount of risk. Not to mention that it's not fair to the remaining employees. Heck, the last 3 years has forced me to take away their insurance, to take away their paid holidays, to take away their paid vacation, etc.

The last couple years I have had to bankroll the firm & I have not been reimbursed (nor do I see it doing so), it's not fair to me, my family nor to my employees. It is what it is, my only regret is that I didn't do it 2 years ago.

Thanks Bob,
I read that as reflection of your Character, Kudos for all your good work.
The epitome of a low baller is to hire a daytender (moon lighting bartender) and pay him cash.(if walmart could do that they probably would). This Country is Powered by Small businesses, in the ideal scenario one would hire an employee, provide him/her the opportunity to lead a at least a lower middle class lifestyle, have benefits, raise children, cultivate him/her to progress professionally and pass the cost on to the client.
Some people have it upside down.

Hope you enjoy your retirement,
Ralph

Retirement?
Oh my!
I don't think so.

I'm too young for that.
Green pastures on my horizon.

Cattle, fire arms and self subsistence is my future
