On a similar note, has anyone tried the new AP20 from Leica? That feels like it's the future. It still has a few bugs but once they get ironed out, I can't see anyone going back to normal poles once they had the chance to use it.
Awesome. I love the tilt compensation feature on my Leica GS18i?ÿ GPS. But the price on the AP20 is bound to retard the rate at which it penetrates the market.?ÿ
I only have a semi active mt1000 profile (in semi active mode obviously - until it randomly changes sometimes) and a Leica round 0mm target for my backsight prism and peanut prism which only get used rarely.?ÿ
It's a tsc7 only a few months old. On the second?ÿ most recent 2022 release.?ÿ
The switching to passive mode originally could be duplicated almost anytime I used "check backsight". Then the next update seemed to fix it, now it's very rare but still ends up in passive mode sometimes. I haven't figured out the trigger yet. I check it multiple times per setup just in case and always double check measurements since I know I can't quite trust it. If it's not in active/semi active it's pretty well going to lock onto whatever gets in its path.?ÿ

It may be quite economical considering it's second function - no more prism pole height busts.
@350rocketmike gotcha. I will get our tsc7 updated soon i hope. I have 3 boundaries i need to perform the adjustments on and working two in the field now. ?ÿI can??t get caught up lol. Every job has now become an emergency. ?ÿ
Engineers act like the world is coming to an end when its not finished yesterday and they didn??t tell us about the job until tomorrow. ?ÿ
But as soon as I can I will check this out for sure. ?ÿI have been using the TSC5 but only with gnss rtk base and rover ?ÿI was impressed with it so far. I like the weight and battery lasted 10 hours straight non stop working ?ÿno swapping batteries like TSC7 and it navigated the brush a little better than the TSC7 ?ÿnow the TSC7 is a work horse and bigger screen ?ÿ

@martin_au I played with one a bit at a surveyor conference. Very nice . ?ÿI never thought i would like a tilt rod as I like plumbing my rod. But I got use to imu on Trimble R12i this past week and once I tested it off and on the first day I was off to the races. Locating fences edge of pavement on a road curb and gutter. Geezers I never knew how not having to plumb a rod was such a beautiful thing. ?ÿBut that 11k is high for sure.?ÿ
@jitterboogie I have been wanting and waiting on the right job to come along to justify getting a sx12. ?ÿHowever waiting on the right job means no chance to learn it and be prepared to make it shine. ?ÿI was very impressed with sx10 when I spent two weeks placing it head to head with a faro 3d scanner. Also what is this elevator rod that keeps getting mentioned on here. I don??t reckon i have heard of this anyplace else but this forum.?ÿ

Funny, that is exactly what the Leica salesman said.
Seriously, I want one and you are probably right. But at that price It is a few budget cycles off for me.?ÿ
here's the spendy version of it....
?ÿ
?ÿ
I used this with big ass sand bags to keep it super stable and got great results when I used it scanning.
?ÿ
it would suck to have to carry it around though anywhere besides just next to the truck for set up. ?????ÿ

The biggest advantage is the increase in safety. Not necessarily in reduction of accidents because surveyors tend to be quite careful (mostly because the gear we carry is too expensive to break) but because of the tilt correction it allows you to get shots in a much safer way. No more climbing over fences to get to a manhole or pipe that's just on the other side, no circus act to get a shot while balancing on one knee or getting a gutter shot on a busy road. With this sucker you can get it from a safe distance and with minimal risks.?ÿ
Once surveyors understand the added benefits of safety, rather than pure speed, it will be easy to justify spending the extra money.
Salesmen don't understand that aspect because they don't use it in the field long enough to see the extra advantages it brings.
@jitterboogie a picture is worth a thousand words. Now I know what they are. I had one for indoors for my laser tracker. It was so heavy it took two to lift it lol. But very stable for indoor metrology work. ?ÿThat seems like a good tool to have on some jobs for sure.?ÿ
@dhunter I also have the Focus 30, but I have the ranger 7.?ÿ So far...so good.
Topcon GT1201 w/ Magnetfield on FC6000. Of course!?ÿ
I would take that over the Trimble s5 and tsc7 despite my sokkia ix experience!
Leica TCRP1203+ is still my favorite.?ÿ
You'd love a TS16 then, ATR is a little better and can get it to screen out at the fixed targets you've setup so no false locks to wrong prism. And spins a bit faster.
