At my last T4 update I reported that I had gotten a T3 set up to be used as a collimator. It seems to be working quite well.
I had suspected that I had some Horizontal Collimation issues to work out and discovered that horizontal collimation is adjusted inside the telescope, not at the reticle. The adjustment involves the mirror that is at the 90° bend of the scope. Getting inside the scope was kind of scary.
So I did some research, spoke with a couple of old T4 users, etc. to make sure I was on the right track.
So this weekend I turned a bunch of angles and concluded the Horizontal Collimation error was about 16 seconds which meant I had to adjust out about 8 seconds.
So I just took my first try at the adjustment and did a single flop of the scope to check for 180° and it looks like I missed by about 2 seconds (1 second of adjustment). The book says that getting Horizontal Collimation within 2-3 seconds is good.
So now I have to turn a bunch of angle sets to see just where I'm at. And of course adjust vertical collimation as well - but that's simple by comparison.
dave, how much of it can you chalk up to the shiver factor? the cold days are upon us. glad to know you are getting that beast t4 tamed
Actually I'm able to do everything indoors under controlled conditions. I may not have all my screws quite tight, but I ain't dragging it outside just to freeze my toes and fingers.
