"That's my half inch gosh darn it!!!!!!"
Interestingly, this idea of reworking the surveying office to be a brand is something that continues to catch on locally. There are more land surveyors than I would have thought who recognize that their business naturally connects with others in a way that is mutually beneficial. Today, I had asked another long-established local surveyor whether he would let me have a copy of a certain map that he had in his files and, the answer being "yes", I had stopped by his office to pick it up.
Oddly, though, the sign in front of his office that used to give the company name now said "Land Surveys and Bikini Waxing". The short answer turned out to be that colleague had hired a gal as receptionist to answer the phones and such who turned out to have extensive experience leading up to a license to practice the bikini waxing profession. It occurred to my colleague quite naturally that on slow days she could supplement the billings with a few bikini waxings and it would both be a net plus to the bottom line as well as a great discount coupon item to give away to the gals at the title companies who order surveys.
If you're interested, you might take it slow, though. The liability insurance is a real mess and some insurers will duck out on paying a surveying claim on the grounds that it is really bikini waxing, and vice versa. Your mileage may vary, of course.
