> Emissions will probably be the death blow for small 2 stroke engines. It's probaly why Stihl came out withh a 4 stroke.
Mine (PS90 R), is a low emission engine, meaning the emissions are below the EPA/CARB thresholds. I could really care less about that since it only gets operated a few hours a year.
Honda makes some great small engines.
I bought a Husqvarna straight shaft a few years ago and never had a problem. Gas stays in all year round. Great lightweight trimmer. Now as far as their riding mowers, that's another story.
For fence lines and up against the concrete I use Eraser (generic round up in concentrate form) that I can mix up as stout as I want. After getting the fan tip "just right" it looks like it's been edged, for months, and I don't have to do it. 🙂
That's because their riding mowers are made on contract to spec..... and we know the results that can bring eh? Especially with a poor spec. and a bidder with a sharp eye for cutting corners.
I've got one of Husqvarna's brush cutters, and a weedeater. They've been my main stays around the place for quite awhile.
The garden tractors are all 80's or 90's model John Deere's with the one exception of my old 1650 Cub Cadet (made by International Harvester).
