Hey all, I have an old setup, a Topcon GPT 8003A, RCII and the Satel radios mentioned in the title. This setup has worked flawlessly until this past 8 months when I switched data collectors over to the Carlson Mini 2. I now seem to get a bunch of interference on the rover pole radio. I've tried switching radios between the gun and the rover pole, that doesn't work. I have not tried switching channels yet, as embarassingly enough, I don't know how. What I do know is, with the DC off, and in the truck, I can turn on the radio on the rod, and I have 0 interference. Hook up the DC and start measuring and the radio has interference. So far it hasn't stopped communicating, but the DC becomes very slow and acts weird. It constantly tells me I've lost lock, when, in fact I haven't. For some reason, the interference seems to make the DC lag. Anyhow, was wondering if anyone else had seen the same thing. Thanks.
An update to this problem is that today I finally got around to messing with switching channels on the radios and nothing happened. So I kept fooling with them (was waiting for client to come unlock the gate he said was unlocked, lol) and I noticed I had 0 interference when the radios were unplugged from the DC and the inst. Inst. radio never showed interference on it at all. DC radio, however, would show interference once you plugged the inst. radio into the inst. No matter what channel I was on, this happened. Is there some other setting I'm missing here?!
It's been years since I had my satel radios. I changed over to the Parani radios when the narrowbanding things became a big deal, and I never looked back. Much lighter, better battery performance, etc.
could your Carlson Mini be broadcasting a Bluetooth signal that may be interfering?
It sounds like there is something wrong with your DC connection port.
I've turned off the b/t and here's the really weird part. The other day, it was doing it, and so I went over and shut the radios down, and switched them. As soon as I plug in the radio @ the robot, BAM, interference on the rover pole radio. So, I switch them back and do the same thing, and as soon as the radio @ the inst. is plugged into the inst., the radio @ the rover pole starts getting interference. I'm wondering if I've got the beginnings of a bad cable? I have not tried an old DC yet though, you may be right Billingsley. Any idea what could be wrong w/that port?
Lighter radios?! I'm all in, sign me up, you got a link for those?

I would highly suggest getting the extended battery pack. I could easily get two days out of the radios. The short antennas easily get 600-800 feet.
I need a little better distance than that unfortunately. My radios are apparently still fine, it's just this weird interference that has only begun since I changed data collectors.

I have gone out to about 1000 feet in a rural area. You can get the longer antennas, and the range increases dramatically. The longer antennas are about $5 each.
Jimmy, posted to your profile, can you take a look?
