Stumbled upon this today:
Kinda wish they were not narrowing the track, but it is what it is I guess.
I'm with you.?ÿ I hate narrowing the track but with the steeper superelevation and the new asphalt it will be FAST.?ÿ probably the fastest non restrictor plate track on the circuit.
Andy
For a couple of years after the Michigan repave, it was faster than Daytona and Talladega.?ÿ With the new car, I don't know what kind of speeds you will see next year there.
?ÿ
I always found it interesting that nobody had an idea that Michigan was the first progressive banking track.?ÿ After they repaved Bristol and others to progressive banking, it was time to repave Michigan.?ÿ Since it always had great multi-groove racing they did an extensive survey and scan of the track.?ÿ That is when they found out that it was actually a (I think 1.5d) progressive banked track.?ÿ Michigan has recently gotten a bad rap, even lost a race.?ÿ I remember going there 15 years ago and being amazed at the 4-5 lanes of racing in the corners.?ÿ People forget that - and now they blame the repave, and the track.?ÿ I think it is the car, that is what really has changed.
?ÿ
That said, that is what I worry about Atlanta.?ÿ Not the most exciting (wreckfest that is), but always a good RACE.?ÿ And fast.?ÿ Not sure it needed to be faster though.?ÿ Glad to have it on the schedule - too many road courses for me right now (4 is about right).?ÿ NASCAR rant over - LOL.
As a biker, I find most car racing really really boring.
Formula 1 is just a parade.
I found some appreciation for Nascar having watched Richard Hammond have a go at it.
But for my money MotoGP and Moto3 are much more exciting.

@jimcox?ÿ
That's pretty much my view. I can watch MotoGP/2/3 all day long. Isle of Man TT is still top of the heap for thrill watching. Cars around an oval track? Just doesn't feel the same.
But then again I never quite got into cars like I did bikes. Having been on track with both car and motorcycle, for me the latter is like the former turned up to 11.
@jimcox Moto3 is where it's at. Those kids are out for blood and their skills are some of the sharpest I've seen in any sport. I'm not knocking anyone's preference but the rider/machine connection on two wheels is hard to communicate to those who are used to four.
some Moto3 events are more like boxing matches than bike racing
A lot of the appeal of NASCAR was the characters and the cars; now they're both generic and boring. I'd like to see a new racing circuit that's like NASCAR was in the '60s and '70s - go to the dealership, buy a car that any other person could buy, make it as fast as you can, and go racing. Some of the coolest muscle cars ever built were inspired by NASCAR.
I get that when the cars are identical it identifies the best drivers, but it's ridiculous to call them "fords" or "chevys" when they're all exactly the same.
@lee-d The closest NASCAR has to the "old days" is the truck series.?ÿ They'll still beat and bang a little bit.?ÿ The old saying was, "Rubbing is Racing".?ÿ Too many rules these days, and too many checks and balances.?ÿ As Junior Johnson said, "If you ain't cheatin' you ain't tryin".
Research Smoky Yunick from the early days.?ÿ Now THAT was a man who knew how to cheat.
Andy
@jimcox We did have an Aussie for a few years.?ÿ Marcus Ambrose came over from the V8 series to run for a while.?ÿ He did well on the road courses but didn't fare as well on the ovals.?ÿ I liked the young man, he always looked like he was enjoying himself.
Andy
I understand Scott Dixon, a kiwi, does pretty well in Indycar

Something tells me, after the interview, they took that hat off our man.
I might be a little bias, but WRC is the one to watch.
It's nice to see a young feller have a job.
