I recently purchased a Leica Wild TC1000 but am having trouble with the GRM10 Rec Module. I am getting an Error 76. If there is anyone with any past experience with these units that can offer a solution to my problem it would be greatly appreciated.

The REC module has an internal lithium battery with a life of 10-15 years. That would be my first guess as the error code indicates a REC module is recognized but it is defective. Perhaps Leica service can still replace the battery.

I have replaced the battery. Before replacing the battery I was get the Error 75(Internal battery of REC module too weak). I know the REC has to be initialized after the battery is replaced but I can't find the information to perform this function.

If you have a GIF 10 module reader, just run the "INIT" procedure. You have to run it twice in order for it to work.

There are probably other ways to initialize a rec module but I haven't used one in about ten years so this is the best I can do from memory.

I don't have a GIF 10 reader. I have been trying to run the "INIT" from the TC1000.

I have been trying to run MODE command 99 which is 'Delete all data in REC module and initialize REC module'

The command string is SET 5 99 RUN +- .

When I entry this the screen displays SURE ? but there is no where to entry yes so I have tried a number of other entries including RUN, SET, REC but they all result in the ERROR 76

Do you know if there is a step or command I'm missing?

After SURE? try pressing the "+/-" key, the decimal point key "." and the "RUN" key in that order. Be sure that all of the rec module and instrument contacts are clean.

If that does not work try contacting Leica service.
