Hello, I am currently consumed by studying for the P&P exam this October and have been focusing the majority of my time on the 1001 Solved Surveying Fundamental Problems(2nd edition) book by Van Sickle. As well as Browns Boundary Control, Evidence and Procedures for Boundary Location, and the A.L.T.A. and FEMA regs. I also signed up for the Land Surveyors Workshop class in Raleigh. If anyone has any recomendations about other texts or study tactics I would appreciate hearing from you.
Also do any of you guys know if the latest version of the Van Sickle book has changed much from the previous version, I was considering the purchase if it was.
I'm taking it in Kansas in Oct too. I used 1001 survey problems for lsit, but I'm not sure it helps with ps as much. I've been told study state law, and PLSS a lot more. I'm still trying to figure the best study practices too. I was sent an hr video that might help. I could forward it if you like.
I have been studying the law portions of the book and ignoring the math with the exception of double and single proportionment. I think the newer book stated that it was for both the FS and PS exams. I have already passed my state specific exam so have been focusing only on the NCEES Exam. Where are you located in Kansas? Some of the best times of my life were in the Comanche/Kiowa County area chasing deer.
Rice County..Right in the middle.
Try "Land Survey Review Manual" by R.B. Buckner - ISBN 1-57504157-X
That is the best!
We hope you enjoy and learn much from the Review Class in Raleigh.
The free 1 hour presentation fill with advice for those studying for one of the exams is here.
Dr. Buckner's excellent book Land Survey Review Manual is one of our best sellers. It was written specifically for those studying for one of the exams.
Hope that helps.

Since the NCEES P&P exam is open book / reference, it is helpful to tab your references so you can easily find different topics quickly (i.e. photogrammetry, geodesy, gps, etc). Also make sure you go completely through the current Manual of Surveying Instructions, and certainly doesn't hurt to tab that too for finding differing topics. Also, you should bring the current ALTA standards, FEMA info and similar stuff not found in text books. I used a 3-ring binder for alot of that loose-leaf stuff, since it has to be bound.
Land Surveying Law by John Keen is a great book. It breaks down most of Brown's book in simple terms, plus it includes a bunch of questions that are similar to the PP exam.
ALSO: If anyone is in the Miami, Fl. and wants to group study let me know.
