I use one of these with a Carlson Surveyor and a Leica TCRP 1203+. I was staking some clearing and the collector and rod got partially entangled in some briars. Long story short the stupid USB Bluetooth adapter that sticks straight out of the top of the collector got snagged and cracked apart. Now I have to get a new one.

I can't be the first person this happened to with this setup. I believe the Carlson Surveyor II has the long range Bluetooth build in internally. Should have gotten the newer one, but this was a year ago and I am not sure those were out yet.

Has anybody devised some sort of cover so this won't happen again?

I use the SD1000 rather than the USB model (and I have a Surveyor+ rather than a Surveyor), but the same damage potential exists with each. My solution was to mount the Parani in a protective box attached to the bottom of the Surveyor+. You can see my approach in https://surveyorconnect.com/threads/surveyor-with-parani-before-after.322154/#post-323470&apos ;">this thread.

good idea....I was kind of hoping they made a cover for the top where all the ports are that would enclose the parani. Even an aftermarket one would do. I remember seeing plastic covers that went on top on some of the old trimble and leica collectors. (by old I mean like 5 years ago maybe.)

It could be printed like I did for the TSC2, although I would suggest a transverse mounting to save printing costs and space. Then use Jim's ribbon cable idea to make it compact

How much would it be to print something like that?

This is the link for the TSC2 version, which would be about the same size +/- http://shpws.me/JTmK I had to weather seal the TSC2 hat and you don't seem to have the same issue, so, in theory yours would be smaller
