@jitterboogie The renewal fee required to support a standalone agency for surveyors would be staggering. Pay and benefits for one employee would be over $200 a year for every Idaho Surveyor. Managing the database, exams, and licensing system is double that.

The long and short is simple. Having our own governing agency doesn't pencil out.

Remember, never argue with an

I'm not arguing.?ÿ I would hope you are not arguing.?ÿ I was under the impression we were having a discussion.

Even if I disagree with you, I appreciate that you are willing to put your opinions and views out there.

@jon-payne?ÿ

me, no way. Thank you for the dialogue and discussion.?ÿ

Just self deprecating humor, I love a good dialogue and discussion, debate too.

As long as we respect each other, thats a beauty of the freedom of speech, opinion ans dissent.?ÿ Its how we learn about each other and about ourselves.

Its not part of the norm anymore, which is where the world is nowadays, truth doesnt matter esp ifyou have 1 million followers to influence.

@thebionicman?ÿ

meh.?ÿ Bollocks.?ÿ A data base to manage less than 2000 people, or even half that, is childs play.?ÿ its mostly on auto pilot.?ÿ Add CEC and applications, still tiny. if the state wants to be the Oracle( see what i did there... ???? ) then they can maintain the minority of the licensed professionals from the population in the database they likely have for all licenses Without actual proof, I'll push back from my Missouri position: Show me. I dont think its nearly as expensive as people believe, and I'll gladly pay $200/year to make 100k plus as an individual, all day and twice on sunday. We're not talking tomorrow, but the weird state of survey has been here sincebefore i was even interested in it 17 years ago, and I'd say theres still room for growth and improvement.?ÿ

@jitterboogie If the database was simply the basic data by person I would agree. You would not believe the number of documents generated and retained for each licensee. We had a staff of five full-time plus a prosecutor and Board Attorney. I've seen what it takes and it won't support itself.

@thebionicman?ÿ

Hopefully the Prosecutor has earned their keep, every board is different I am learning.?ÿ Staff Attorney thats also a surveyor??ÿ Seems that would be a good card to hold onto. NM and Colorado are wildly different, yet similar.Great discussion, keep it going.

@thebionicman Just throwing some quick numbers together, estimating board staff salaries (Kentucky also has counsel on staff), over head on those salaries, pay for appointed board members during duty hours, office expenses, travel expenses (as board members also work with national organizations for many things), investigations, enforcement actions, etc...?ÿ I am venturing a somewhat wild guess, but I would bet an individual surveying license would quickly run very close to or over $1000/yr if it were to remain a self-supporting board.

In the whole scheme of things, that doesn't seem too bad to me, but I just renewed for a two year period in May for $150.?ÿ And there are folks who complain about that amount!

It would be really great in one of these type threads if a past board member for various states could outline just how many things are involved in what the boards do.?ÿ That might give some perspective on the budget required.?ÿ Too many people think they just collect money issue a license and that's it.

?ÿ
