Many years ago the County Engineer/Surveyor needed to determine the true location of a specific section corner.?ÿ Believe the Field Notes list a stake and pits.?ÿ Two County roads intersect at this location today.?ÿ Many years ago they both continued from there but those extensions were later vacated.?ÿ This is long before recording requirements, independent licensing of surveyors and mandatory section corner records sent to the state archives.?ÿ But, there is a survey showing his monument.?ÿ An odd choice, but that was not uncommon during certain periods of our history, the item set most closely resembles a short piece of a U-shaped fence post.

Many years later, along comes a need for this section corner.?ÿ A fellow working for a large consulting firm from a far part of the State either does not find the old survey with corner ties to the U-shaped item or chooses to pretend it does not exist.?ÿ Sets a shiny new bar with a big cap on top and files this record with the archives.?ÿ A few years later another firm comes along and grabs the shiny bar/cap and says "winner, winner, chicken dinner".?ÿ Then, several years later again, along comes another consultant from 200 miles distant and known for doing his homework.?ÿ He decides the U-shaped item set by the County Engineer/Surveyor clearly agrees with evidence in other portions of the adjoining sections.?ÿ He sets a bar and cap within the U.?ÿ Several years later, I come along and concur that the U holds and the now rusty bar/cap was a bad guess.?ÿ Now, the archives have two monuments, several feet apart, to further confuse the next surveyor.?ÿ Guess who called me today.?ÿ That next surveyor.?ÿ He hadn't gone to the courthouse but relied on the Hub Tack records available on his Smart Phone.?ÿ When he discovered that the references led him to two very different locations, he needed some help.?ÿ We had a nice discussion while I pulled out the plat and the field notes from my work six years ago, including a copy of that survey by the County Engineer/Surveyor.

I thought the Divine Bovine played the "Bill" part in the Red Green show.?ÿEither that or Pat McManus's friend Retch Sweeney. ?????ÿ
