Hello all. This is my first post as Im trying to get some help asap. I'm a sheriff deputy in Michigan and my dept just bought a Nikon NPL-322+ total station with Trimble Nomad data collector to replace our old damaged unit.

I cannot get the two to connect via bluetooth. The nomad has bluetooth turned on and so does the nikon. The nomad will see the nikon when you search for bluetooth devices and add it to the list but when you try to activate the connection and test it the data collector times out and says the connection wont work.

Any help would be appreciated, Im stressed... I need to fix it before we get a nasty crash or need it for a crime scene.

When setting up the initial Bluetooth connection on the nomad, did you enter the Bluetooth PIN, or Passcode? Most BT devices, the default Passcode is "0000" or "1234". On the nomad, try deleting the BT connection for the Nikon, Search again, then set the Bluetooth PIN, or Passcode again.

I will try that when I go in at 6pm tonight... I looked on the Nikon to see if there was a way to set a passcode or see if there was a unique one already programmed in but didnt find anything in the menus. There was a spot for passcode when setting up the Nomad but I left it blank due to not knowing if the total stn had one or not

Anybody know if the Nikons have a default passcode ? I cant find anything online

On my Nomad the passcode is 1111 using Survey Pro.

Okay thanks. We use MFX but the software itself shouldnt change what the nomad's passcode is (one would think)

If you have activated, or turned on the Bluetooth on the Nikon, this makes it Discoverable by the Nomad and MFX software. The Nikon may show the BT icon on the instrument display. In the MFX software, delete the current BT connection for the Nikon, search for BT devices again, it should find the Nikon Serial Number. When prompted, enter the Nikon BT PIN code. Most Bluetooth Class 1 devices have a 30-meter range.

I'm trying to Google search, find the default Nikon NPL-322 Bluetooth PIN code. Downloaded the PDF manual. Doesn't seem to be in there.

Yes i think thats the issue... I have not been able to find the nikon default password. The devices are both discoverable and the nomad picks it up I just cant get it to connect. Web searches and the manuals I can find online arent coming up with anything.

I sent an email to a colleague that sells and supports Nikon surveying instruments, hopefully he will reply quickly, but it may be Monday before he replies. Try using BT PIN Code "1111" as Jules suggested.

Good luck !

Glad to hear you you got the Nomad/MFX communicating to the Nikon NPL 322 instrument.
This morning, I rec'd a reply email from my colleague. He stated the instrument needs to be Nikon-322+ to have Bluetooth capability.
No Bluetooth PIN code that he is aware of. Turn ON the BT in the instruments COM settings.

Be safe out there!

I set one up for a customer a while back and to get the Bluetooth to work on the Nomad, I had to go to the port assignment tab in the Nomad and let the system specify an "Outgoing Port" to a particular COM port.

I never had to do that with any other unit on a Nomad. It was an older Nomad but I don't think that was the issue. So I would suggest going to the Bluetooth manager screen and select the COM Ports tab and have the system create a new Outgoing Port. The default worked fine for me.

Why this is different from other devices, I do not know.
