Have any of you guys attended one of these workshops in the past? I volunteered to attend the FS standard setting workshop in Atlanta, GA this summer. I received the invitation today.

What can I expect? What did you think about the one you attended? Are any of you attending the workshop in Atlanta this summer?

I was a member of the FS cut score committee in December of 2005; over two days, 17 of us worked with NCEES staff and their testing consultants.

The process involved defining the "knowledge base" of what a "minimally competent licensed surveyor" would know, taking the same exam the candidates took in October, rating each question as to it's difficulty related to the defined "knowledge base" then the next day we went through the exam question by question to decide a consensus on the rating of each question. With that info, the testing gurus from Princeton go back to their lab and decide whether the passing score is 70, or a mystery number above or below 70.

It was a pretty interesting experience, all the surveyors were pretty good guys (and one gal from Montana), and there was some pretty lively discussion on what a surveyor needed to know to be initially licensed. NCEES was also pretty liberal on picking up bar tabs 😉

It was the weekend of the SEC championship game and we were in the same hotel as the LSU team. During breaks when we were wandering around the conference room area you could look in the other rooms and watch the LSU coaches and players going over game film.
