When I was searching it seemed all the dealers were trying to push geomax on me. I guess bc only trimble dealers can deal trimble etc and geomax is letting everyone sell it and at its attractive price it seems to be an easier sell.
I'm sure it's a great gun. The 80 didn't impress me but I'm sure the 90 is better.
I've had a focus 30 and 35. Loved em. They are about the same price range as the geomax. Still got my 35 and also got a refurbished S7 (refurbished from trimble is brand new just costs less) love the s7 but to be honest, the extra 12k isn't worth it over the focus. It may search faster but the active track is only slightly better than the passive of the focus.
Shop around before jumping to the geomax. Also depends greatly on what software you like. I love surveypro for its simplicity and user friendly approach. I even got my 65 year old father to learn it in a week and he never even held a data collector before. So that was also a big draw for me to the focus. I can use CE for the focus but the software seems more klunky to me. I'm sure once I learned it, it would be just as good though. CE was a draw bc I run carlson desktop. But I'm used to using surveypro with carlson so it wasn't a big deal to stick with that setup.
