I have a new-to-me Topcon GTS-500 total station and I've had no luck finding a manual.
Specifically looking for information on saving points internally, the serial port, and/or transferring data from the GTS-500 to a computer.?ÿ Perhaps it's just a few pages someone could scan for me??ÿ Thinking perhaps it might be useful to save points internally as a backup if my external data collector dies.?ÿ (Ok yes I could just write it all down on paper; that would suit the vintage of this instrument. 🙂
A very helpful surveyor from New Zealand mailed me a GTS-700 manual a few months ago, and it has most of what I need.?ÿ Thanks to him, a calibration by a local dealer, a used Windows tablet from eBay, and sending $$$ to my local Carlson dealer for new copy of SurvPC now I'm up and running.?ÿ There are some differences between the 700 and 500 I'd like to understand better.
The GTS-500 is a version of the GTS-700 without the 'full' onboard data collector, and many of the 700 menu items are different or missing altogether on the 500.?ÿ Such as the 500 doesn't have any of the point management or serial port configuration menu items described in the 700 manual. The previous owner said the 500 has some rudimentary ability to save points and transfer them to a computer, and I've found some brief references online to this.
I did get it running with SurvCE on an old Explorer II data collector I had around. Now I use SurvPC on a Windows tables (FZ-M1); both with using a cable.?ÿ
Also hoping the manual has more info on the GTS-500 serial port so I can put an external Bluetooth dongle on the total station and eliminate the cable to the tablet.?ÿ The baud/parity/stopbits seem to be fixed (no menu in the 500 to change them) and I had to google about to find how to configure the data collector serial port.
All my internet search results ended up in dead links, old eBay listings, or spam sites.?ÿ The Topcon sites didn't have one I could find.?ÿ The dealer said he couldn't get one and suggested I search online.?ÿ Of course I searched this site too.
Thank you!
PS For the curious, this brochure was the most definitive information I could find on my gun:?ÿ
PS If I could afford a couple Javad's or BRX7s I'd buy them!
maybe corean or chinese ?????ÿ

Thanks Mike. ?ÿYou made me realize the 510 is probably a 710 w/out the ??full?? onboard data collector. ?ÿSo a 510 manual might help me.
I??ll look for one. There??s a PDF on eBay for $50 but the seller doesn??t have great feedback.?ÿ
