Hi everyone, I'm new to this site and fairly new to surveying. I'm a civil/structural designer who has taken up surveying out of necessity, so basically the only training I have in surveying is from working with another surveyor in the past and researching things myself. I work for an engineering firm and most of our work is in refineries and chemical plants, so I really don’t do much land surveying; more or less I locate existing objects so we can create a background in CAD. I just wanted to give y’all a little background on my situation.
Currently I am using a Leica TS06 Plus with a Carlson Supervisor running SurvPC; this is what the previous surveyor was using when I came to work here. At my previous job I had a brand new Topcon ES with a Topcon Tesla running Magnet Field. I liked my Topcon set up much more than the current setup I am using, especially the Tesla; I liked the Magnet Field software much more than the Carlson software I am using now. With that being said, I am having issues with my Carlson Supervisor, the touch screen goes crazy and it seems that I have to calibrate it a few times a day. My boss told me to look into getting a new data collector and I wanted to ask for your opinions.
Have any of y’all had problems with the touch screen on the Carlson Supervisor?
Will a Tesla and Magnet work with my Leica TS06?
Any recommendations on any other data collectors and software that would work with my Leica?
Any input would be appreciated! Thanks!

I think this is the first time I've heard of someone liking Magnet over Carlson. I'm cool with it...just not something we hear often. Magnet will certainly not work with the TS06. That being said...the Carlson Supervisor is problematic. Youd be better off with a field book and a broken pencil.

I'd look into getting a Panasonic tough pad and transferring Carlson over. It's lll cost you about 1500 total and will work great Or look into getting a data collector and staying away from the tablet solution. One reason the Mesa/Telsa works better is bc it runs a mobile platform. While RAM is limited within the platform it runs faster for what we do in the field.
