Entering codes on the fly:
If I enter a code PP TRSF then I can't enter a code as PP because the list keeps putting the former code in, I can enter PP1, but not PP.?ÿ Am I missing something on being able to enter just PP as a code?
Hot Keys:
I know how to enter Hot Keys.?ÿ The other day I was doing some Cogo and the C20 said that the App may be corrupt and I lost all previous assigned Hot Keys and had to start putting them back in and the C20 defaulted to operating in meters.
My question is, can I find a listing of the quick keys that I can set down and plan out what I want to put where without having to go on the C20 and scroll through the list to find what I want?
I know it??s not a great solution, but if you hit the space bar twice after ??PP,? it??ll hold the code.
What exactly are you trying to code on the CS20??ÿ I'm going to guess PP is for power pole and PP TRSF is for power pole with transformer.?ÿ I would suggest creating a pre-defined code list in Captivate.?ÿ You then get a pull down menu with all of you codes.?ÿ You can use the new code tab to add job specific codes to a code list.?ÿ I think you can find some useful YouTube videos on Captivate coding.
As for the list of available hot keys, that would be great.?ÿ The list gets bigger with each update.?ÿ The way I do it is load the simulator and look at it while I configure the CS20.?ÿ Pro tip, creating and saving working styles on an SD card keeps you from needing to reinvent the wheel each time need to reformat the CS20.
Thanks.
I have another problem that I found out today that I hope that someone can help me with.?ÿ I loaded coordinates to stake out a job today and when I got to the job I noticed that the North and East were reversed even though I had the order set in the regional settings as North, East so the only thing I can think of is the import format got changed and I could not find a setting to change it back to PNEHD or code as Leica calls it.?ÿ Also it would not let me cade the new points as I shot them.?ÿ How do I change the ASCII DATA format for importing data in the format PNEHD or PNEHC?
The export format is still good.
In Import ASCII/GSI command hit the function key.?ÿ There you will see the Settings tab (F1).?ÿ That is were you configure the CS to match your ascii file.
I can not access the measure screen on my simulator, but the best way to code anything is in the "code" tab.?ÿ It comes up in measure menu.?ÿ The icon is the tree and fence.
I would really recommend viewing the Leica YouTube tutorials on coding and linework.
Leica reinvented line coding. It has been something that we have been working on getting dialed in slowly.
Regarding entering new codes/double codes: if you want it to behave as you are used to (from any other collector software)- Settings>customization>coding: Coding functionality=Only code points (no linework) & check "Allow new codes to be created". This will allow you to type whatever you want in code value without it fighting you.?ÿ The disadvantage to this approach is you are not able to see linework as you create it (if you are using traditional _B, _PC _CLS, etc as code suffixes for line coding.
Our workflow historically has been RW5 files off the collector with linecoding the traditional way ("EOP1 B", EOP1 PC, EOP1 DRIVE1 B, etc. In the setting mentioned above if you turn the coding functionality to "Create linework" you get then are working with linecoding the Lieca way. You can watch videos on how to use their linecoding tools, they are good once you get used to them. Additionally in the second page of the coding section of settings you can define the traditional linecode commands you use for your destination software (begin, 3 pt arc, close, etc.).?ÿ How I understand this: you don't see these linecoding suffixes as you do linework the Leica way, however you can export a text file that appends these onto your coding, BUT not for RW5 exports.?ÿ The Leica linecoding tools appear to work best when you are bringing your job into Infinity. Another fun side note: if you have Create linework turned on, and double code a point, if you export to RW5 it will create 2 point entries, one for each code. Argg. Why did they have to reinvent linecoding.
@ekillo?ÿ
Just curious, do settings like these randomly change or is it something that had never been done before? Like importing a CSV instead of getting a full job with linework a different way?
I complain about my field software as it randomly crashes and glitches out a lot but I've never had settings randomly change.?ÿ
Sounds like I wouldn't like captivate and their owners hexagon are the reason why Fieldgenius still really sucks. I just wish other software companies would do linework the way they do...let you turn on the line whenever you want to, turn it off whenever you want to and manually join gaps by yourself easily after the fact. Magnet field wasn't bad once I figured out line codes but it never understood how to give me the next available point number in a range I wanted..
I would want to use the next 600 series for lot 6 I was working on in a new subdivision....so I put in 600 like in Fieldgenius assuming it would give me the next available number...no it says 600 is already used...how about 1400? Ummm NOOO. It will always give you a random point number that isn't what you want... forcing you to go to the point list of 3000+ points and scroll to the range you're looking for and figure out what numbers are available... costing an extra 40-60 seconds sometimes all for nothing.?ÿ
I have been using Captivate for about 3 years and have never had a problem until last week when my battery was getting low and I went to calculate a new cogo point and the CS20 showed a message that the cogo apt may be corrupt and locked up, when I rebooted the CS20 my settings were gone and it defaulted to working in meters and to get my job done I had to calculate my point using meters.?ÿ When I purchased the software the Leica rep set it up and I have used it doing simple data collection of points and exporting to an ascii file and importing into Civil3D.?ÿ I do my own drafting and I believe that I can connect the points manually about as quick as I could trouble shoot any miscoded points and lines, I have not used the survey database in Civil3D yet.?ÿ I was using Carlson SurvCE running my Leica 1200 robot, but I have started to use Captivate to run my Leica TS16i.?ÿ I used SurvCE V1.67 for 17 years and never had the first problem, but when I got the Leica TS16i, Carlson did not have drivers for it.
I think I have got the Leica CS20 set back up about like it was before it crashed and have managed to add a box for offset heights which I did not have before.?ÿ I appreciate the replies and help that you have provided me in my time of need and have stored a working style and now know how to edit it.
Thanks,
Ed

?ÿ
I would say that they, and their predecessor Wild, invented it in the first place.?ÿ Wildsoft had robust linework collection back in the 80's at a time when most others just collected coordinates.?ÿ With it you could run multiple lines at a time and recall points and linework.?ÿ Wildsoft was replaced in the 90's by LisCAD, which was developed by an Leica affiliate company (LisTech is now owned by Hexagon).
